Said Oxford Essay 1. Explain why you chose your current job. How do you hope to see your career developing over the next five years? How will an MBA assist you in the development of these ambitions? (maximum 750 words)

Analysis: This is a difficult question to answer, as it combines multiple issues and applicants should be careful to sure to pay sufficient attention to all parts of the question.

Selection of Current Job
As in NYU’s MBA application question regarding decisions you have made in your career, you want to show that you have a purpose and focus in life. Whether it’s your first job out of college or your fifth, explain what about the company, position and industry was attractive to you. Don’t waste words explaining common career paths and transitions; however, if there are big gaps between jobs or major chances of industries or roles, provide some context for them. Hopefully,
there are some connections between your current job and the career you are pursuing post-MBA; if not, you may have difficulty conveying a strong personal narrative.

Five-Year Plan
This questions mixes your short-term and medium-term stories. Notice that Oxford MBA Admissions are very specific: they are asking for a plan, not just a vision. Show that you know what you’re talking about, especially if you are a career-switcher. Discuss your plans to transition into banking, finance, consulting, etc., and highlight the transferable skills that would make you an attractive candidate.

How Will the MBA Assist You in the Development of These Ambitions
This is a very straightforward part, in which you want to show that Oxford’s MBA program is not just great in general, but great for you: talk about classes, clubs, the alumni network, etc.
